The victim was identified as Patrolman Val Liansing, 24, temporarily assigned to the E.B. Magalona Municipal Police Station in Negros Occidental.

Capt. Elmer Bonilla, head of Police Station 7, said the victim was reportedly cleaning his .45 caliber personal firearm inside his bedroom when he accidentally shot himself in the jaw.

His family called for rescue and police assistance.

Liansing was taken to a private hospital but he expired Sunday night, Bonilla said.

Police recovered the gun and some cleaning materials from the victim’s bedroom.

Bonilla said the victim was supposed to be deployed as one of the augmentation personnel for the observance of ‘’Undas.’’

He said they will subject the victim to a paraffin test to determine if it was indeed his gun that hit him.
