To ensure peace and order, as well as the safety of the public in this year’s “Undas,” the Marikina City local government will deploy its essential emergency response teams to the five cemeteries in the city on Monday, Oct. 31 to Tuesday, Nov. 1.
Emergency medical teams, health stations, ambulances, police, and firefighters will be placed at Loyola Memorial Park, Our Lady of the Abandoned Parish Cemetery, Holy Child Cemetery, Aglipay Cemetery, and Barangka Cemetery.
The teams are under the control and command of Rescue 161 or the Marikina City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO).
Rescue 161 will also position CCTV cameras at the cemeteries as an added precaution.
To reduce traffic and gridlock in the city, the local government also released the traffic guidelines to enter and exit the cemeteries effective starting 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 31, until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1.
The A. Bonifacio Avenue will be open for one-way eastbound traffic, from Barangka Flyover until the Shoe Avenue stoplight.
Visitors to the Loyola Memorial Park, the largest cemetery in Marikina, are advised to pass through Marcos Highway towards the Barangka Flyover or the Barangka Underloop in order to pass at A. Bonifacio Avenue.
Gate 2 of the Loyola Memorial Park will be the designated entrance, and Gate 1 will serve as the exit.
In order to arrive at Gate 2, the public is advised to turn left at Plaza de las Flores, left again at Paspasan Street, then turn right at Don Gonzalo Puyat Street.
Upon exiting Gate 1, motorists must turn right to Paspasan Street, turn left at Chorillo Street, then left again to A. Bonifacio Avenue.
Riverbanks Avenue is open to southbound traffic. Motorists can pass through Riverbanks Avenue coming from A. Bonifacio Avenue if they wish to go towards Marcos Highway.
The Marikina Public Information Office (PIO) clarified this rerouting scheme is effective only from Monday, Oct. 31 to Tuesday, Nov. 1. By 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, the regular traffic scheme will resume.
There will only be changes in the scheme and its schedule if there is a need for it, they said.
