1 dead, 4 injured due to ‘Paeng’ in Bicol


LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – One person was killed while four others were injured due to severe tropical storm “Paeng” (international name “Nalgae”) in the Bicol region.

One person was reported missing, the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD)-Bicol said on Saturday night, Oct. 29.

The fatality was from Mandaon, Masbate and the missing in Mercedes, Camarines Norte. The injured were from Sorsogon City, Sorsogon.

Gremil Naz, OCD-Bicol spokesperson, identified the fatality as Ronito Arguilles, 60, a resident of Barangay Dayao, who drowned.

The missing was identified as Jaspher Montañez, a fisherman from Barangay Manguisoc.

Injured were Nishma Mustapha, 53, and Hussin Mustapha, 27, residents of Barangay Bibincahan; and Christopher Duka, 22, and Aldrin John Cruz, 29, residents of Bacon District.

Duka and Cruz were struck by a falling acacia tree while riding a motorcycle.

Naz said that the fatality and missing have yet to be validated by the Management of the Dead (MDM) cluster headed by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). The injured still has to be validated by the Department of Health (DOH).
