Troops deployed to help evacuate residents in Cagayan


CAMP MELCHOR F. DELA CRUZ, Upi, Gamu, Isabela – The Army 5th Infantry Division has deployed search and rescue teams to help evacuate residents from severe tropical storm “Paeng” in Region 2 or Cagayan Valley.

The search and rescue teams of the 17th Infantry Battalion, 77th Infantry Battalion, and 95th Infantry Battalion have been sent to Apayao, Baggao, Cagayan, and Benito Soliven, Isabela, respectively, to provide manpower assistance to Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Offices in their preemptive evacuation.

The 5th ID’s was deployed in Ilagan City, Isabela.

The 77th IB and the police helped in the preemptive evacuation of residents of San Miguel, Baggao to the San Miguel Elementary School.

This is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of residents due to the increasing water level in the barangay.

The 5th ID urged residents to evacuate if needed for their safety and vowed to continue performing their humanitarian assistance mandate.

Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera region are currently experiencing heavy rain as of posting time.
