Several airports in the country have suspended their operations due to the effects of severe tropical storm "Paeng", the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said on Saturday, Oct. 29.
In a statement, the CAAP said the operations of airports in Central Luzon, Romblon and San Jose in MIndoro island have already cancelled flights due to bad weather conditions.
"Sangley will also be suspending tower and airport operations due to the storm and rising sea levels. Meanwhile, all domestic flights at Clark International Airport (operated by LIPAD Corp.), have been cancelled for today," the statement read.
Busuanga Airport will also be suspending aerodrome control service due to heavy rain as all flights in the airport have been cancelled.
The CAAP said the Bicol International Airport (BIA) also reported that airport and flight operations are currently suspended, with airlines cancelling flights since Friday, Oct. 28.
Albay was one of the provinces hit by "Paeng" but the CAAP said there was no damage reported at the BIA.
It said all airports in the Bicol Region are now readying to return to normal operations as the storm has passed their area.
On the other hand, airports in the Visayas region like Kalibo, Iloilo, and Bacolod have adjusted schedules of several flights due to ‘Paeng’ on Friday. The airport in Roxas City in Capiz and in Antique already suspended flight operations Friday morning.
At Tacloban Airport, the CAAP management has initiated the distribution of Malasakit Kits to the passengers of a delayed Air Asia flight from Manila.
The Davao International Airport (DIA), meanwhile, have cancelled three flights for the day. ‘Paeng’ has also caused delays in two flights at Laguindingan Airport.
"CAAP is continuously coordinating with airlines concerned as well as local government agencies to ensure the safety of both passengers and CAAP airport employees," the statement read.
