PCG: 7K individuals stranded as Typhoon ‘Paeng’ forces closure of seaports

More than 7,000 individuals were stranded in seaports on Saturday, Oct. 29, as trips were suspended due to the inclement weather brought by Severe Tropical Storm “Paeng,” the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.

Many of the travelers were supposed to go to the provinces to visit their departed loved ones in time for the All Saints’ Day and All Soul’s Day on Nov. 1 and 2 but their trips did not push through as 585 seaports have suspended their operations nationwide.

According to PCG, a total of 7,439 passengers, drivers, and cargo helpers were stranded in seaports in Bicol Region, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Southern Tagalog, Northern Mindanao, and Northeastern Mindanao.

There were also 107 vessels and 22 motorbancas that were stranded, and 184 vessels and 350 motorbancas that were taking shelter in ports due to the bad weather.
