Muntinlupa bags highest nutrition seal of compliance award

The Muntinlupa City government was awarded the highest nutrition seal of compliance for its programs aimed at eradicating malnutrition.

At the 2022 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony on Oct. 28, the National Nutrition Council-National Capital Region (NNC-NCR) awarded Muntinlupa the 2021 Green Banner Seal of Compliance for its sustainable intervention programs to combat and completely eradicate instances of malnutrition especially among children.

This is the highest citation given to a local government unit (LGU) for achieving at least 85 percent overall rating.

Trina Reyes-Biazon, who is part of the Muntinlupa City Nutrition Committee, expressed her appreciation to all, saying she was "happy and proud to be a part of the hardworking" team.

The awards recognized LGUs that have prioritized and implemented nutrition interventions with a significant positive impact on the nutrition situation of the whole community.

Muntinlupa's contribution to the fight against malnutrition is the Sustainable Nutrition Augmentation Program (SNAP), an initiative started by former mayor and now Rep. Jaime Fresnedi, which continued under Mayor Ruffy Biazon.

SNAP identifies families in specific target areas in the city's nine barangays that are vulnerable to malnutrition and augments their daily nutritional intake.

Muntinlupa and other GBSC awardees can qualify for the national Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner on Nutrition (CROWN) award if they maintain their outstanding performance for three consecutive years.

"Many thanks to Congressman Fresnedi, who laid the groundwork for this achievement, our fellow Muntinlupeños can be assured we will continue this program and even do better in completely eradicating malnutrition in the City," said Biazon.

SNAP has benefited over 700 families, providing them a regular supply of eggs, vegetables, and other nutritious food in order to meet the recommended dietary allowance and raise their body nutrients to healthy levels.

In addition, according to Biazon, Muntinlupa also received the following recognitions at the ceremony:

- Best LGU in the Implementation of Nutrition in Emergencies Program

- Best LGU in the Compliance and Dissemination of National Laws and Issuances on Nutrition

- Certificate of Appreciation, Muntinlupa City Nutrition Committee
