CHITCHAT OVER COFFEE: Dear basher, shut up!

Nadine Lustre (Facebook)

While we hear the saying – good publicity, bad publicity is still publicity – it is not helping! At this point in time, to be talked about in a bad way, is a bad way.

Obviously, the OG-Marites in Philippine show business have really damaged a lot of relationships (not discounting the fact that of course they too helped a lot – but since my article is about bashing will focus on the damage), mentally and emotionally damaged a lot of celebrities – others changed for the better, while there were some that was affected permanently – till, money talks. They can turn around the story from possibly to what could be, and to what really happened according to who paid more, till the truth be written and be told again – that is if people care still to know the truth.

Truth is, when I said yes with all my heart to be one of MB’s celebrity contributors, I told myself, I will try my best to give this kind of section – a kinder touch, and be more on a positive note. Maybe show the other much humane side of the story and remind people, that celebrities maybe public properties – yet, they are very human. They are still their parent’s children, some children’s mother, and they are with heart and soul. But guess what, the enemy did not stop with the OG’s – instead, social media created minions aka bashers. All of a sudden – people feel they have that show of power over someone through bashing.

SUNSHINE CRUZ, ACTOR , 44

Sunshine Cruz, 44, actor

A celebrity who was once married, bruised and battered emotionally by her ex; even came to be so down financially at one point.  And till to this day, she tries her best to raise little women on her own by reviving her showbiz career and working very hard to every earning opportunity that’s been given to her.  Aside from being a single parent raising her girls, and sending them to a not-so-so-so school, part of her wanting to be a better example, she made sure that she finishes college.  Yes, she is a graduate of BS Psychology.

Sure, you would see her posts on her social media every possible way – some cute TikTok dances I would say, showing bikini or swimwear posts at the beach, and even singing posts.  BUT what’s wrong with that?  One would even comment for her to act her age!  Why do these posts bother you, bashers?  Why do you care?  Why do you even look at her page if it annoys you too much?

Sunshine isn’t a goddess – however she sports her body, it is her choice.  Why not? She worked and still works so hard to look that great at 44!  You don’t see her dance TikTok half naked as if trying to lure a dirty old rich man.  For the past years, you will only see her post pic of her partner – consistently showing one partner since her annulment.  She is a decent woman that may have done sexy films 22 years ago, sure – AND let’s not forget that she is also a hardworking woman who apparently you never got to read about being wasted, or drugging, or even in someone else's bed the next morning!  Basher, you enjoy faulting her for looking beautiful and fit, while she never really claimed that she’s gorgeous while you look nothing but an uglier version of a dead toenail.

Did you you, that only insecure people need to speak badly about other people?  It's their underhanded way of praising themselves.  (kapraise-praise ka ba talaga?)

Suggestion: Instead of bashing single moms like her, who have gone through hell, how about we encourage women like her? Empower and encourage women to have a LIFE after dying; have a LIFE after broken marriage; a LIFE even if one needs to move forward ALONE.  Cheer her on, for all we know her dancing TikTok is also her way of boosting her confidence.  (Or better yet, might be an addition to her funds).  Whatever is her reason MAY BE – at least she is herself, and she’s not out there hooking up with DOMs and even breaking families.   Let’s all be kinder.  Let’s focus on the good.

Nadine Lustre, 29, actor

Nadine is a celebrated actor especially since she rose to fame after playing the lead role of Eya Rodriguez in the film Diary ng Panget. She became a household name due to her television series with James Reid, On the Wings of Love and the films Never Not Love You, Ulan, and Indak. BUT DID YOU KNOW – Aside from being an actor, she is an advocate of Mental Health, and she even invested on MINDYOU – Quality Mental Health Services Designed for Filipinos. Aiming to help people going through mental issues.

I say, she’s always been brave. She follows what makes her happy and whole esp. Her bold move to move to Siargao says a lot about her. But bashing her look all the time is crazy. Why? Coz she’s morena – mukha na katulong? Because she chooses not to photoshop her post pictures all the time, she’s tagged as someone who looks old? Why sorry dear, apparently she is beautiful, not because she is morena, but because she is a smart being who has no reality issue at all. Who chooses to rise above each time she trips, she chooses to remain realistic and humble, amidst the fame that’s been gained through her love team. Nadine is beautiful – because she chooses to not forget that when the light turns off she is a normal pain Jane ready to laugh loud, daydream and cry if she has to – BTW bashers, did you even look anything like her when you were 29?

Suggestion: Though being part of this kind of business, actors do have a responsibility to most of the time look good, how about let’s keep things real. Lower your expectations, and worst, try not to overthink things. Also try to remember – EVERYTHING AGES – even your gums! Instead of having something unpleasant to say, how about we focus on her plea for people to walk the talk about mental health. This way, you also practice focusing while letting the good juice in you come out.

Nina Jose-Quiambao, newly elected Mayor of Bayambang, Pangasinan at 34

We first learned about this young lady, being a competitor in Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition 1 in 2006. After which, tried show business for a while. Now this woman is a proud wife, a devoted Mom to her son, a wonderful and generously loving aunt to her nieces and nephews and even stepchildren. What people don’t know of is that she is a Marian Devotee. Recently, she’s been quickly blamed for the Wawa bridge that collapsed last Oct. 20. Fact check: Bridge was made during 1945, refurbished during the '80s and checked by the DPWH just last July 2022 after the earthquake. FYI, the bridge is a project of the National Government and the DPWH. Amidst the fact check, people were quick to judge and call her names. Guys, she’s just on her 4th month as a Mayor of Bayambang, Pangasinan. She’s trying her best to be an effective mayor. She is humble enough even to seek advice from her husband and even her older sister. Every now and then, she gathers members of her LGU and even residents to have dialogue with her to make sure that everything she does is to help to recreate the better and improved version of her city. She never once claimed she knows it all – instead, she’s always been open to learning and growing together with the town people. Sure, she is one who’s in love with looking good, but who isn’t? I’ve yet to come across someone who would not completely care and would not do anything just to slow down aging a bit.

Suggestion: Instead of being too quick to bash and judge newly elected young politicians, how about we encourage and boost their morals – send suggestions which they may even consider if they find fit in their platform. At the end of the day, she’s yet to prove her worth – so let her. If and when after a term or even a year or two supposedly serving as a mayor, and they didn’t do good, that’s when one may probably bash… you need to, because this government trusted and voted them to be where they are. Voted for them in confidence, after all. PS>Save the bashing to someone more deserving of that bashing if it’s so hard to leave your system. BUT TRY – Let’s try not to be too negative. Breathe positivity. Be kinder. Remember– he who has not sinned, cast the first stone.
