Barangay Granada is MassKara Street Dance and Arena champ, wins P1 M


BACOLOD CITY – Barangay Granada won the MassKara Street Dance and Arena competition and pocketed the P1-million cash prize here on Sunday, Oct. 23.

This is so far the biggest cash prize given by the city government in the competition.

Barangay Captain Alfredo Talimodao said they started preparing for the competition in August. Talimodao lauded the MassKara dancers for putting their best effort in the competition.

Barangay Granada was a grand slam winner in the competition in 2014, 2015, and 2016 under the supervision of choreographer Jeodem Casabuena.

Casabuena also mentored the barangay in this year’s competition.

Barangay Granada received special awards – Best in Music, Most Disciplined Contingent, and PauPau’s (Food Panda) Choice.

Barangay Sum-ag was first runner-up and received P500,000. It was Best in Mask and Costume designed by Segundo Jesus Cabalcar Jr.

Second runner-up was Barangay Estefania which won in 2019. It received P300,000 and awarded Best in Theme and Concept.

Barangay 35 received P250,000 for being third runner-up while Barangay Singcang-Airport received P150,000 as fourth runner-up.

Barangay Tangub was fifth and received P50,000.

Sixth runner-up was Barangay 31 which received P30,000 and seventh was Barangay Alangilan which got P20,000.

Barangay Alijis won the Best in Introduction award.

Barangays with special awards received P25,000 each.

All 17 participating barangays received P10,000 medical assistance from STI-West Negros University which was the official tabulator of the competition.

Celebrities Pops Fernandez and Derek Ramsay and veteran broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez-Roxas were among the five judges in the competition.

The celebration of the 43rd MassKara Festival concluded Sunday.
