Barangay Hitapian is a Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area (GIDA).

As the implementing agency of SBDP projects, Gov. Edwin Ongchuan spearheaded the turnover of a two-classroom school building and barangay health station last week.

The facilities aim to support sustainable rehabilitation and development in conflict-ridden communities such as Barangay Hitapian.

The program is also under the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) which aims to defeat the New People’s Army and obtain sustainable and inclusive peace throughout the Philippines.

Ongchuan thanked the national government for the funding assistance to the barangay through the SBDP.

He said the visit enabled him to interact with the community that shared their concerns to him and other key heads of the provincial government.

Barangay Chairman Mar Bulagnir, in behalf of his constituents, sought the help of the governor in the construction of their evacuation center and connect the barangay to the rest of Catubig and the province through a farm-to-market road.

The provincial government distributed food packs to the more or less 286 families and packed meals for all residents present in the event.

The Department of Interior and Local Government provincial office gave goodies and school supplies to school children.
