DPWH undertakes work on 2 Tarlac flood shields

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said on Sunday, Oct. 23, that work on two flood control projects are being rushed to protect the residents of Capas, Tarlac from the threat of heavy flooding.

In his report to DPWH Undersecretary Roberto R. Bernardo, DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino said that the dike, built at the cost of P94.5 million along the Bangut River in Barangay Sta. Lucia, is connected to the existing concrete river walls in the area.

He explained that the engineering work was made to strengthen the first line of protection of the affected residents against the possible overflowing of the Bangut River particularly during excessive rains of long durations.

Tolentino added that extensive work is being implemented in the restoration of the 282.8-meter river wall on the right bank of O’Donnell River, also located in Barangay Sta. Lucia with the target completion date expected this month.

He noted that the P48.95-million repair works aim to rehabilitate the structure along O’Donnell River that was damaged by the previous typhoons.

Both projects are implemented by the DPWH Tarlac Second District Engineering Office (DEO) under its chief Edward Ricardo Ramos with the funding sourced from the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2022. (Chito A. Chavez)
