The Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) reported that a 2GO container van spilled more than P3-million worth of raw cooking oil at the junction of Drilon Bridge and Muelle Loney St.

The road became slippery and nearby residents scooped out the cooking oil.

“Please be advised not to sell, buy, or use the raw palm oil for cooking because it is contaminated and unfit for consumption,” the Iloilo city government said in an advisory.

Personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), 2GO, tanods of Barangay Ortiz, and the Iloilo City DRRMO worked together in containing the leaking cooking oil.

Sawdust and sand were spread all over the affected road to stop the spread of the cooking oil.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Iloilo also responded to the incident site by placing an oil spill boom to prevent the cooking oil from sliding down the nearby Iloilo River.
