Alternate routes for collapsed Carlos P. Romulo bridge in Pangasinan bared


SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – The Department of Public Works and Highways-Region 1 on Friday, Oct. 21, revealed the alternate routes for the Carlos P. Romulo bridge in Barangay Wawa, Bayambang, Pangasinan that collapsed on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 20.

The DPWH-Pangasinan Fourth District Engineering Office said that the bridge is closed until further notice.

Motorists can take these alternate routes:

– Bayambang-San Carlos-Urbiztondo-Mangatarem and vice-versa.

– Bayambang-San Carlos-Aguilar Road via Bocboc Bridge-Mangatarem.

– Carmen Junction-Manat Road (Bayambang-Bautista-Alcala-Santo Tomas-Carmen, Rosales)/Manila North Road and vice-versa.

– Bayambang-Bautista-Moncada-Camiling Road for light vehicles only.

– M. H. del Pilar, Bayambang-Urbiztondo-Mangatarem-Camiling Road for light vehicles only.

Four persons were injured when a part of the bridge collapsed after an Isuzu Elf truck loaded with fertilizer and a dump truck carrying sand were crossing at around 3:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Manila North Road, Kilometer 578+800 and 578+600, in Barangay Pancian, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte remains closed due to landslides.

Alternate route for all types of vehicles:

– Ilocos Sur-Abra-Kalinga-Tuguegarao Road and vice versa.

– Manila North Road (MNR), Ilocos Sur-Abra Road Junction, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur-Bangued, Abra Section then Abra-Kalinga Road (Bangued-Tayum-Lagangilang-Licuan Baay-Balbalan Section) then Kalinga-Abra Road (Balbalan-Pasil-Tabuk Section) and then Junction Kalinga-Tuguegarao Road.

The DPWH-Region 1, Ilocos Norte 1st DEO, Ilocos Norte 2nd DEO, and Ilocos Sur 2nd DEO are conducting clearing operations.

However, clearing operations are being hampered by moderate rains to heavy rains in the area.
