A total of 715 kilograms of mishandled meat products were confiscated by members of the Parañaque Veterinary Services Office on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
According to Dr. Karen Vicencio, head of the City Veterinary Services Office, a random check was conducted around 2:00 a.m. at La Huerta Public Market where five delivery boys were held for questioning.
Vicencio said one of the delivery boys was questioned after the meat products were found in a rusted sidecar.
She said the meat was also exposed and not in a container or plastic bags.
The chief of the CVSO also said another delivery man was also stopped for carrying frozen products like chicken, pork, beef, carabeef, and others.
Vicencio said the man claimed that he was about to deliver the meat product to the Pasay City public market.
She said they confiscated the meat products due to improper handling and transportation that can cause zoonotic or animal diseases such as the Foot and Mouth Disease.
The chief of the CVSO said the delivery boys were also found to be carrying meat products without the necessary permit.
The CVSO brought the confiscated meat that had been found unsafe for human consumption to their pound incinerator.
The city government of Parañaque advised the public to ensure that meat vendors have meat inspection certificates before buying products from them to make sure they are clean and safe to eat.
