SJ Belangel's steady debut put to waste as Daegu loses to Jeonju

SJ Belangel put up a steady first game but Daegu KOGAS Pegasus still stumbled to a 81-72 loss to Jeonju KCC Egis in the Korean Basketball League on Sunday, Oct. 16.

Belangel had 10 points, two rebounds and two assists, shooting 2-of-4 from the three-point territory in a losing effort after Pegasus fell to an early 18-point hole and never recovered despite some semblance of life in the second half where they cut the lead down to single digit.

It also didn’t help that aside from Belangel, no other player from Daegu managed to hit a three-pointer, combining for a horrendous 0-of-16 clip from the field.

Heo Ung and Korean naturalized player Ra Gun-ah provided the deadly one-two punch for KCC Egis with 19 points and 18 points, respectively. Ra Gun-ah, more known as Ricardo Ratcliffe when he played for the Star Hotshots in the past, also hauled down 12 boards apart from four assists, three steals and two blocks.

Yi Dae Song paced Daegu with 25 points while world import Youssou Ndoye had13 points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, fellow Filipino imports Justin Gutang and Rhenz Abando both didn’t see action for their respective teams.

Gutang’s Changwon LG Sakers fall to Seoul Samsung Thunders 65-62 while Abando’s Anyang KGC picked up its second straight win with a 73-62 decision against Daegu Orions.
