27 NPA rebels yield to police in Western Visayas


ILOILO CITY — Twenty-seven New People’s Army (NPA) rebels surrendered to the police in Western Visayas in two months.

“I am encouraging the remaining supporters and members of the NPA who are still in the mountains, this is the best time for you to return to the government’s side and live a beautiful life with your family and loves ones,” said Brig. Gen. Leo Francisco, Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 director.

Nineteen communist guerrillas surrendered in Capiz, four in Iloilo, two in Negros Occidental, and one in Antique.

One NPA rebel surrendered to the Criminal Investigation and Detection (CIDG)-6.

Major Grace Borio, PRO-6 spokesperson, said the surrenderers yielded three homemade rifle shotguns and two fragmentation grenades, among others.
