ZAMBOANGA CITY – Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) chief Col. Alexander Lorenzo on Friday, Oct. 14, announced the creation of a special task group to investigate the murder of a former policeman and contractor who was a political supporter of Mayor John Dalipe here.
Lorenzo made the announcement during the Peace and Order Council at the Zamboanga City Hall, a day after 49-year-old Alvin Perez was gunned down by four unidentified armed men inside his vehicle in Sitio Lumiyap, Barangay Divisoria, this city.
Dalipe condemned the shooting incident and asked the police to make a thorough investigation of the killing.
The task force will be composed of different units from the Philippine National Police and Task Force Zamboanga.
Lorenzo said police are coordinating with personnel from the forensics laboratory to check on the trajectory of bullets and are retrieving footage from surveillance cameras within the vicinity of the crime scene.
Police have secured the victim’s cell phone, his vehicle’s dash cam, and are trying to backtrack his location before he was shot.
Perez, together with two bodyguards, was on his way home on Thursday, Oct. 13, when the suspects fired at their vehicle.
Perez succumbed to bullet wounds from an M-16 rifle while one of his escorts was wounded. The other bodyguard was unharmed.
