Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco said on Friday, Oct. 14, that good coordination between the local government and the city police resulted in better enforcement of laws in the city during his first 100 days in office.

The local government reported that the Navotas City Police seized P6,474,736 worth of illegal drugs and P22,268 illegal gambling money in various police operations conducted from July to September this year.

The city police also arrested 41 most wanted personalities in the city.

During its sustained drive against the drug menace, the city government facilitated the rehabilitation of 72 persons through “Bidahan", the city’s community-based drug rehabilitation program.

Authorities also acted on 70 drug-related reports through "Text JRT", and subjected 1,660 suspected drug users to drug testing.

Text JRT (Text John Rey Tiangco) is a local government project that encourages the residents to report about illegal use of drugs through text message so authorities can immediately respond.

The strict implementation of the city ordinances also led to apprehensions of 4,512 traffic and parking violators, and imposition of fines on 497 violators of anti-smoking and anti-littering laws.

The newly renovated Navotas City Central Fire Station and newly constructed Disaster Risk Reduction Management's (DRRM) staging area were also inaugurated during Tiangco's administration.

During the 37th International Coastal Clean-up, the city government said it purchased two additional garbage trucks and had collected 82,179 kilos of solid waste and debris.

In line with this, 144 mangroves and 129 tree saplings were planted in Tanza Marine Tree Park and other open spaces in the city.

The city received awards from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for peace and order, including the 2021 High Functional Anti-Drug Abuse Council and the 2019 and 2021 Functional Local Peace and Order Council.
