Cookie Monster's real name is Sid!

Life-long Sesame Street fans were in for a treat when “Cookie Monster,” the beloved blue puppet with an insatiable hunger for cookies, shared his real name is “Sid.”

“Did you know me name is Sid? But me still like to be called Cookie Monster,” he said on the character’s Twitter page on Friday, Oct. 14.

Social media was abuzz with this revelation as some fans were stunned by this fact despite having known the iconic character since their childhood.

However, Cookie Monster has alluded to his real name in the past.

If one follows the trail of “cookie crumbs,” he’s mentioned his name in episode 4059 that aired in 2004 in a song, “The First Time Me Eat Cookie.”

In the song, Cookie Monster recalled his cherished first memories as a baby, including the first time he ever ate a cookie.

“Me was just a mild-mannered little kid. In fact, back then, me think me name was Sid,” he sang.

Munching on 20 cookies in one sitting, the taste of the cookies changed his life, Cookie Monster said.

Delving deeper, it’s been revealed that Sid may be a shorthand for “Sidney.”

“"Me wasn’t born with name 'Cookie Monster'. It just nickname dat stuck. Me don’t remember me real name... maybe it was Sidney?" he tweeted back in 2010.

Whether his real name is Sid or Sidney, Cookie Monster has solidified his place in the public’s consciousness as the lovable cookie-munching monster in Sesame Street.

As goes his iconic Sesame Street song “C is for Cookie,” that’s good enough for me!
