'A principled man': NUP addresses DOJ chief Remulla's situation


The National Unity Party (NUP), which has a significant presence in the House of Representatives, has expressed its support behind Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla.

"The NUP continues to express its support for Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, vice chairman of the party, during this difficult period," the party said in a statement Friday, Oct. 14.


The statement was signed by NUP President Camarines Sur 2nd district Rep. LRay Villafuerte and NUP Chairman Ronaldo Puno.


News broke out Thursday that Secretary Remulla's son, Juanito Jose Diaz Remulla III, was arrested in Las Piñas City during an anti-illegal drug operation. The DOJ chief had since released a statement saying that he would neither intervene in nor influence his son’s predicamen.


Moreover, Secretary Remulla, himself a former Cavite congressman, said that he would "let justice take its own course".


"We have known Secretary Remulla for years. His professionalism and love of country is unparalleled," the NUP statement read.


"We also commend Secretary Remulla for promptly assuring authorities that he will not, in any way, interfere in or influence the case of his son. We are assured of the fact that as a patriotic citizen and head of the , he will always place the national interest above his personal ties," it added.


"As a principled man, we know that Secretary Remulla will always uphold the rule of law. We know that he will let justice take its course," it further read.


There are 33 NUP stalwarts in the House of Representatives. The party is among the oldest and most respected in the country.
