New PNP-PIO chief: Who is Red Maranan?


Police General Rodolfo Azurin, Jr. picked a well-rounded and bemedaled official to head the Public Information Office of the Philippine National Police (PNP-PIO).

A member of the PNP Academy Class 1995, Police Col. Redrico “Red” Maranan, was the deputy district director of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) before he was tapped as the PIO chief—a position that is expected to earn him his first star rank.

Based on his personal data sheet, Maranan received more that 100 PNP medals since he joined the police service, including PNP Heroism Medal and the PNP Distinguished Service Medal.

He was also meritoriously promoted to chief inspector (now Major).

Among the positions he held were intelligence officer of Cavite Police Provincial Office; group director of Intelligence Training Group; chief of police of Bacoor and Imus, both in Cavite; chief of staff of the PNP Drug Enforcement Group; and provincial director of Pangasinan.

As provincial director of Pangasinan, Maranan led the provincial police office as No. 1 Police Provincial Office and Best Provincial Police Office during the 119th Police Service Anniversary (PSA) of Police Regional Office 1.

He was also named as the Best Senior PCO for Administration in QCPD and Best Senior PCO for Administration of NCRPO during the Police Service Anniversary 2022.

As an alumnus of the PNPA, Maranan was adjudged as Outstanding Alumnus for the year 1998, 2002, and 2011.

Maranan graduated cum laude and was awarded Best in Oral Revalida in Masters in Business Administration at Wesleyan University and his second Master's degree is Public Management Major in Development and Security at Development Academy of the Philippines.

He also emerged as number 1 in the Course Directors Training and Public Safety Officers Advance Course, (PSOAC).

Maranan also underwent various trainings that include NBI Agent Investigation Course; Hostage Negotiation Course in Federal Bureau of Investigation in L Counter Terrorism ; Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Explosives (CBRNE) ; and Airport Physical Security Course in Department of Homeland Security in the United States.

Maranan replaced Police Brig. Gen. Roderick Augustus Alba who was named as the new regional director of the Police Regional Office 7.
