Navotas Mayor John Rey Tiangco on Wednesday, Oct.12, shared how his administration provided more scholarships and learning opportunities to Navotenos over the past 100 days.
“We strongly believe that our city’s continuous progress is anchored in the quality and inclusive education of our people,” Tiangco said.
A total of 312 tablet computers have been distributed to special education (SPED) students by the city government, as well as a three-month cash allowance worth P1,500 to beneficiaries of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Students Educational Assistance/Scholarship in the city.
The local chief executive also noted that Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) accepted 77 new SPED educational aid beneficiaries, while the Navotas Scholarship Program gained 24 additional academic scholars.
At least 6,055 Navoteño graduates also received their P500, P1,000, and P1,500 cash incentives.
Among these were 3,594 elementary completers, 1,962 senior high school graduates, and 499 students who graduated from Navotas Polytechnic College (NPC).
The mayor touted that free college education is being provided to 2,838 NPC students.
The city also gained 42 licensed teachers from NPC, he added.
“Education programs were severely affected by the pandemic and the long community quarantine. To make up for lost time and opportunities, we are working doubly hard to bring to Navoteños the best kind of education there is,” Tiangco said.
Through the city’s early childhood care and development (ECCD) centers and Kindergarten on Wheels program, over 800 preschool children have also completed their curriculum.
The city government also announced that it started the construction of four-storey school buildings, with a total of 64 classrooms, in seven public elementary and high schools in Navotas.
