Alba named Central Visayas top cop


Police Brig. Gen. Roderick Augustus Alba, the erstwhile chief of the Public Information Office of the Philippine National Police (PNP-PIO), was named as the new director of the Police Regional Office 7.

Alba will replace Police Brig. Gen. Eduardo Vega who reached the mandatory retirement of 56 on Thursday, Oct. 13.

A member of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Class 1993, Alba was appointed as head of the PNP-PIO in October last year, under the tour of duty of then PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar.

“For more than a year, we had established a good and professional working relationship. I thank you for all your support, cooperation, and patience. I hope I have helped you in accomplishing your tasks as a journalist and member of the media," said Alba in a message to reporters on Thursday, Oct. 13.

Alba was the deputy director for the administration of the PNP Information Technology Management Service (ITMS) before his appointment as PNP PIO chief.

He also served as the officer-in-charge of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO), provincial director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), Chief, Regional Operations and Plans Division of the Police Regional Office 6, and other commands, staff and training assignments as a senior PNP officer.

"I would like to inform you that I was assigned as Regional Director of PRO-7 effective today (October 12, 2022). I am introducing to you Col. Redrico 'Red' Maranan as the new Acting Chief, PIO, PNP," said Alba.

Maranan, a member of PNPA Class 1995, was the deputy district director of the Quezon City Police District before he was named as Alba's replacement.

He used to be the chief of police of Marikina City and provincial director of Pangasinan.
