ICTSI Australia berths largest vessel to date

International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI)'s Australian subsidiary, the Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT), recently serviced the largest vessel to call at the Port of Melbourne (PoMC).

Victoria International Container Terminal services largest vessel to call at the Port of Melbourne

The CMA CGM Group deployed its CMA CGM Estelle, with a nominal capacity of 10,926 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) at the port.

The vessel, which operates on the North Europe Mediterranean Oceania (NEMO) service, broke the record previously held by the CMA CGM Ural at 10,622 TEUs.

Like its predecessor, the CMA CGM Estelle berthed at Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) in Webb Dock.

"We are committed to support the Victorian shipping industry with our $235 million investment, in partnership with PoMC in the Webb Dock Development, to accommodate increasing vessel sizes,” VICT chief executive officer Tim Vancampen stated.

VICT lauded the CMA CGM Group's "continued drive for efficiencies through deploying larger vessels with clear environmental benefits in the Oceania."

“The global shipping fleet is deploying larger vessels," noted PoMC CEO Saul Cannon.

And "the Port of Melbourne is well positioned to meet global shipping trends to serve the growing freight needs of Victoria and south-eastern Australia now and into the future,” he underscored.

The fully automated VICT, operating on its sixth year now, is capable of servicing the largest existing and next-class vessels on trade.
