Albay eyes to develop old Legazpi airport as township

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – The provincial government is eyeing the development of the old Legazpi domestic airport into a township.

ROSAL (FB)

Albay Gov. Noel E. Rosal said on Tuesday, Oct. 11, that the provincial government will issue a resolution addressed to the Department of National Defense (DND) converting the 70-hectare airport into a community.

The airport was abandoned last year after the bigger Bicol International Airport (BIA) in Daraga, Albay started operating.

Rosal said that the project will be one complete package in which the winning bidder will design it with call centers, hotels, convention center, offices, regional offices, and industries.

The DND-owned land is located few kilometers away from the main business center here where an iconic view of Mayon Volcano is very prominent.

Rosal said that the development of the old Legazpi airport would generate thousands of jobs for people in the province.
