DPWH prepares as 'Maymay' threatens Central Luzon

the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has prepositioned motorized heavy equipment in strategic places in Central Luzon that may be hit hard by tropical depression "Maymay".

In an advisory released on Tuesday, Oct. 11, the DPWH Region 3 also warned travelers to observe extra precautions when traversing the mountainous provinces of Central Luzon, especially in Carangglan Nueva Ecija, and Aurora provinces.

"Due to the expected passage of Typhoon Maymay in Central Luzon, the DPWH's quick response teams in the region have been reactivated to alert status and according to PAGASA's latest weather bulletin, the provinces of Aurora and Nueva Ecija are now under TCWS No. 1," the DPWH Aurora District Engineering Office (ADEO) advisory read.

The ADEO also positioned personnel and backhoes in landslide and flood-prone areas such as Baler-Casiguran Road; Nueva Ecija-Aurora Road; and A. Castaneda-Ma. Aurora-San Luis Road.

"As early as today, the Aurora District Engineering Office has prepositioned their manpower and equipment in preparation for the possible onslaught of TD Maymay which is forecasted to make landfall tomorrow afternoon or evening in the vicinity of Aurora or the northern part of Quezon," the advisory read.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, and the extreme northern portion of Quezon (General Nakar, Infanta), including Polillo Island.

Tropical Depression "Maymay" is the country's 13th tropical cyclone for 2022 and is expected to traverse the landmass of Central Luzon before emerging over the West Philippine Sea by Thursday morning, according to the Philippine state weather bureau.
