BOC-NAIA officials discusses issues on weapons of mass destruction with US officials


Officials of the Bureau of Customs at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA) met with a team from the US Defense department to strengthen cooperation and interoperability in dealing with weapons of mass destruction (WMD).

BOC-NAIA district collector Carmelita Talusan said the meeting also focused on the latest modus operandi in the delivery system of weapons of mass destruction.

"Issues and concerns regarding the interdiction, safe handling, transportation, disposition, and counter proliferation of WMD materials were also discussed during the meeting," said Tulusan.

Also present during the meeting were Alex Bedmarek, international project manager and contracting officer of the Strategic Offensive Arms Elimination (SOAE) of the United States Department of Defense’s Defense Threat Reduction Agency; and, Domina Salazar, supervising specialist of the Department of Trade and Industry-Strategic Trade Management Office (DTI-STMO).

Talusan has assured to extend cooperation and assistance to ensure the safeguarding of national security and public safety.
