MB Daily News Update: De Lima safe after hostage drama at PNP custodial center

The serenity of the Sunday morning was shattered by reports that an inmate had taken former senator Leila de Lima hostage at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame. Quick reaction by authorities had them quickly neutralizing the suspects, and rescuing de Lima unscathed.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said he will be personally checking on the situation of de Lima, even as the former senator’s allies in the opposition have already condemned the hostage-taking incident. Some quarters have asked that she already be released from PNP custody.

Meanwhile, Marcos is expected to sign the SIM card registration bill into law on Monday, Oct. 10, 2022. Find out about the salient features of the new measure in the MB story below.
