Manila Archbishop Jose F. Cardinal Advincula presided over the holy mass during the virtual celebration where His Eminence commended the efforts of the people behind the institution.

“As we mark our 69th founding anniversary, I would like to extend on behalf of the priests, lay leaders, scholars, beneficiaries and the poor families, our heartfelt gratitude to all the staff, volunteers and collaborators of Caritas Manila,” said Cardinal Advincula.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, you risked your lives as you continued bringing assistance to poor communities, especially those who were suffering from hunger and those who lost their livelihood. Because of you, Jesus is present and alive in the communities of the archdiocese and in all those who received blessings because of you,” the Church leader said.

Caritas Manila in partnership with parishes under the jurisdiction of the Manila archdiocese and other concerned groups provided food, clothing, quarantine facilities, and medical assistance to families who were severely affected by the pandemic. They also distributed over a million gift packs and gift certificates from various donors and benefactors.

Fr. Anton Pascual, executive director of Caritas Manila vowed to continue their journey with the poor and “to help them be self-reliant through education, health programs, livelihood opportunities and as members of this Christian caring and sharing community – Church of the poor.”

The theme for the celebration is “Synodality: A Collective Journey with the Poor as the People of God.” It was attended by thousands of Caritas Manila volunteers and staff.
