CEBU CITY – Police on Wednesday, Oct. 5, arrested the man in a hit-and-run incident that killed a teacher and injured her husband in Minglanilla, Cebu on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
The suspect was identified as Luigie Go Lazarte, 25.
Police said the victim, Charisma Servado, a 45-year-old public school teacher, was the backrider of a motorcycle driven by her husband Sherwin when the accident happened on the national highway in Barangay Tunghaan.
Sherwin was about to turn left when a motorcycle driven by Lazarte hit them from behind.
The couple was thrown off the motorcycle and landed on the concrete pavement.
Charisma was declared dead after she and her husband were rushed to the hospital.
Police said Lazarte escaped by riding a bus after the incident.
Staff Sgt. Mark Rosaroso of the Minglanilla Police Station said Lazarte didn’t have a driver’s license, prompting the suspect to escape.
Lazarte was forced to leave his motorcycle behind after one of its wheels was damaged.
Police was able to track down Lazarte through the motorcycle registered under his grandfather’s name.
Lazarte was arrested in the house of his live-in partner in San Fernando, Cebu.
