San Juan public school teachers receive cash aid, health kits

The San Juan City local government gave financial aid, health kits, and free flu vaccines to the city’s public school teachers in celebration of World Teachers’ Day on Friday, Oct. 7.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, together with other city government officials, led the event at San Juan Elementary School.

According to him, 636 teachers and school personnel from the 13 public schools in the city each received P3,000 courtesy of the city government.

“This is our small way of saying thank you to our beloved public school teachers and acknowledging their efforts and sacrifices in order to provide high quality education to our children here in San Juan City,” Zamora said.

They also distributed health kits to the beneficiary teachers and school personnel containing two gallons of alcohol, two face masks, one spray bottle, one oximeter, one box of vitamin C, one infrared forehead thermometer, and a nasal spray.

On Aug. 22, San Juan City started full face-to-face classes in all public schools, earlier than the Department of Education's (DepEd’s) mandate to commence full face-to-face classes in all public schools by November.

Zamora explained that the city was given permission to do so due to its high vaccination rate. He said 265.5 percent of the target population completed their primary doses and 112.09 percent received the 1st booster.

The city government has also set up Covid-19 vaccination sites in all its public schools to encourage students and their parents to get inoculated against the virus.

Aside from ensuring high vaccine coverage and protection against Covid-19, San Juan City has also ramped up its efforts in giving its teachers and students the tools they need for learning and teaching.

By November of this year, all classrooms in all 13 public schools of San Juan City will be installed with 55-inch Smart TVs and will have WiFi and Fiber Optic Internet connection in common areas.

Around 7,000 households of public school students currently have Fiber Optic Internet connection as well.

“San Juan City will strive to provide our teachers with the necessary tools to make it easier for them to impart knowledge to our children. We know that their difficult job has been further complicated by the pandemic,” Zamora said.
