With the scheduled rollout of full face-to-face classes next month, the Department of Education (DepED) is currently gathering data on schools that implement blended learning to be submitted to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
“We are currently coming up with the report to be given to the President,” DepED Spokesperson Michael Poa said in a press conference on Frida, Oct. 7. “Once given to the President, it will be up for his consideration what will be done,” he added.
Classes for School Year (SY) 2022 -2023 opened on Aug. 22. Schools were allowed implement full face-to-face, blended learning, and full distance learning until Oct. 31.

Based on the guidelines set by DepED, all public and private schools that offer basic education programs will have to implement five days of face-to-face classes starting Nov. 2.
However, there are calls --- especially coming from the private sector --- to allow private schools to continue the implementation of blended learning beyond Oct. 31.

Poa said that DepED has yet to give public and private schools general instructions regarding preparations for Nov. 2 --- especially on the implementation of blended learning modality.
“We have to wait for the decision of the President before we can give guidelines once November comes,” Poa said.
Poa said that the DepED Central Office already directed Regional Directors to identify schools that are still doing blended learning. “We are getting reports which schools that are implementing blended learning and full distance learning and we’re asking what are their reasons for implementing those modes and we will give these reports to PBBM so in the Cabinet level meeting on face-to- face classes,” Poa said.
“We are now collating the information in preparation for that report that we are creating for the President,” he added.
Based on initial data released by DepED in August, 29,721 schools or 51.8 percent of schools nationwide are implementing a blended learning modality when SY 2022-2023 opened.
A total of 24, 175 schools, or 46 percent of schools nationwide implemented five days of in-person classes while 1.29 percent or 1,004 schools implemented full distance learning.
