The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has strongly condemned the killings of former Vice Mayor Narciso Amansec of Dipaculao town in Aurora province, his wife Merlina, and their driver Leonard Talosa last Oct. 3.

"This incident is an outright violation of the right to life," the CHR said in a statement.

Amansec, who was also former board member of Aurora’s second district, was ambushed in Barangay Dibutunan last Oct. 3. The three of them suffered fatal gunshots wounds which led to their deaths.

The CHR said it has dispatched a Quick Response Operation team to independently investigate the case in the pursuit of truth and justice for the victims. This independent probe is concurrently being done as the Dipaculao town police conduct its own investigation, it said.

It expressed hopes that the heightened attention on this case will eventually lead to the arrest of the perpetrators so they may be held to account.

"In a society that respects human rights and dignity, killings and other transgressions against human life have no place," the CHR stressed.

"Let us continue to resist normalizing violence and start inculcating once again a culture that puts primacy to human life and rights,” it stressed.

The CHR has extended its condolences to the family and loved ones of the Amansec couple and Talosa.
