2 soldiers killed, 3 wounded in Eastern Samar clash


TACLOBAN CITY – Two soldiers were killed and three others were wounded, including a 10-year-old girl, in an encounter before dawn on Friday, Oct. 7, in Jipapad, Eastern Samar.

The Army 8th Infantry Division confirmed casualties but has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

Unconfirmed reports disclosed that an undetermined number of New People’s Army rebels from the Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee Sub-Guerilla Unit attacked a squad from the 52nd Infantry Battalion at around 1:30 a.m. in Barangay Dorillo.

Killed were a staff sergeant and a private first class. Wounded were a staff sergeant, a private first class, and a girl hit by a stray bullet.

Barangay Dorillo is about eight kilometers away from the town proper.

Jipapad is celebrating its feast day on Friday.
