Confiscated mufflers become Christmas lanterns in Angono, Rizal

Several mufflers previously confiscated from motorcycle owners as part of the Angono municipal government’s anti-open muffler ordinance have become works of art and Christmas décors.

The office of Mayor Jeri Mae Calderon said the confiscated mufflers have been transformed into Christmas lanterns, thanks to violators of a local law banning the use of noise-generating accessories in motorcycles.

Calderon said the town’s Public Safety and Order Office (PSO) head, Richard Bryan Villamarin Cruz, was the man behind the initiative.

“We are actually hitting two facets in this humble concept-noise reduction and compliance to our ordinance. The use of seized open mufflers as component of our Christmas decors is just a bonus,” the mayor said in statement.

The office of Mayor Calderon said the PSO is implementing the ordinances and other local laws including anti-littering under the Zero-Basura (zero waste) Program, regulation of the use of single-use plastics as food and non-food containers, traffic management among others.

The municipal government has been a partner of the provincial government in its pro-environment program, the Ynares to Ecosystem to Green Program (YES), including the transformation of old dumpsites into eco-parks that produces year-round vegetables and ornamental flowering plants.
