The movement, which aims to promote good governance among government officials and workers, will be led by representatives and directors of the social action centers (SAC) of the 85 archdioceses and dioceses around the country.

In partnership with the SAC, the Church will conduct educational and information dissemination campaigns on good governance particularly in the barangay level.

Caritas Philippines national director Kidapawan Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo said, the “Simbayanihan” Movement is not meant for the Church to meddle in political affairs.

“The movement is aimed at promoting morality and good governance among government officials,” the Church leader said.

“It might be difficult but we have to do it. It is the moral duty of the Church, our moral obligation to correct the wrong and to highlight what is good, right and just,” Bishop Bagaforo said over Radio Veritas.

Meanwhile, Fr. Tony Labiao, Caritas Philippines executive secretary said, the advocacy might take a year to reach all diocesan and barangay levels.

Fr. Labiao said the movement is seen to help alleviate the plight of the poor who will benefit from good governance and a corruption-free government.
