BANGUED, Abra – Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte paid tribute to teachers on National Teachers’ Day at the Abra Sports Complex here on Wednesday, Oct. 5.
"Our teachers are the honor of our country and we must give importance to their role in the development of the country," Duterte said.
She assured that she will prioritize their demand for educational facilities and infrastructure toward the delivery of quality education for all students nationwide.
Duterte, guest of honor and speaker, met around 3,500 teaching and non-teaching personnel from 27 towns in this province.
She arrived in this capital town at 8 a.m. with First Lady Marie Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos. They were met by government officials and Brig. Gen. Mafelino Bazar, Police Regional Office-Cordillera chief.
Duterte thanked the provincial and municipal governments for uniting school teachers for the National Teachers' Day celebration.
Mrs. Marcos also thanked the teachers who serve as second mothers to students for providing quality education and good manners.
She encouraged the teachers to continue their service to the students for their bright future.
Duterte visited the Bangued North Elementary School and distributed 'PagbaBAGo' kits containing school supplies and dental health, including food packs to students and their parents or guardians.
DepEd Regional Director Estella Cariño informed the Vice President of the resiliency of teachers and non-teaching staff, officials, and other stakeholders in delivering their mandates despite the pandemic and the recent magnitude-7 earthquake.
Cariño thanked Duterte for visiting them and personally attending National Teachers’ Day which is a great honor and inspiration to the teachers and citizens of Abra.
Before Duterte left Abra, she had a simple lunch with the teachers.
