The Southern Police District (SPD) has found some lead in the dashcam and cellular phone of slain veteran radio journalist Percival Mabasa, also known as Percy Lapid, that were turned over to the police by his family.
Roy Mabasa, the slain journalist's brother, said they expect results within the 24 hours given to the SPD by National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo to solve the case.
Mabasa said the footage taken by the dashcam of his brother gave a lead to the police.
He added that the police are now studying the CCTV footage from the barangay for the possible identification of the suspects on board a motorcycle.
Based on initial reports, a man believed to be the gunman, could be seen in one of the CCTV footages.
Las Piñas police chief Col. Jaime Santos said they are still waiting for the result of the digital forensic test conducted on the cellular phone of Mabasa, adding that this will help the police determine the last person that Mabasa had conversation with or whether he received death threats.
Santos said the digital forensic test will also help them to identify the possible suspects in the ambush-slay.
He added that they are still in the process of backtracking the CCTV footage they obtained from the barangay.
