Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin "Benhur" Abalos Jr. has condemned the brutal killing of veteran broadcaster and columnist Percy Lapid who was shot dead in Las Piñas City on Monday night, Oct 3.
In denouncing Lapid’s murder, Abalos assured that the government will remain vigilant in running after the perpetrators until the masterminds and those involved are arrested and brought to justice.
“We guarantee the Lapid family that the government does not turn a blind eye to this heinous act,’’ Abalos said in a statement Tuesday night, Oct. 4.
Abalos said “that an in-depth investigation of the said atrocious crime has already moved forward through a Special Investigation Task Force established by the PNP-Las Piñas City hours after the unfortunate incident.’’
Abalos stressed the DILG and the PNP are committed to bring justice to Lapid’s family and to “bring the suspects behind bars to answer for their crime.”
“The department stands by its mandate of protecting the Filipino people towards a more peaceful and orderly Philippines including the hard-working media practitioners across the country who have been partners of the government in information dissemination and most importantly, in serving as watchdogs for the benefit of the public,’’ the DILG chief pointed out.
“Nakikiramay ang pamunuan ng DILG at PNP sa mga naulila ni Percy Lapid at titiyakin namin na hindi titigil ang inyong DILG at PNP hanggang agarang malutas ang kasong ito (The leadership of the DILG and the PNP condole with the family left behind by Percy Lapid and we assure that your DILG and PNP won’t stop until this case is swiftly resolved,’’ he continued.
