Las Piñas police form task force to probe killing of radio commentator

Las Piñas City police chief Col. Jaime Santos has created a special task force to investigate the ambush slaying of hard-hitting radio broadcaster Percival Mabasa Monday, night, Oct. 3, by unidentified suspects.

Santos said a Special Investigation Task Force Group (SITG) was created to focus on the motives behind the killing of Mabasa, known as Percy Lapid, 63, a DWBL radio commentator and resident of 26 San Beda Homes, Talon Dos, Las Piñas City, and to hunt down the perpetrators of the crime.

He said the Las Piñas police "will dig deeper into the case to give justice to the victim and his family."

Santos said the cellular phone of Mabasa will be submitted for digital forensic test and the dashcam will also be reviewed for back tracking and tracing the identification of the suspects.

Santos said the police will be looking into every possible angle and do not discount the possibility that the shooting could be related to Mabasa’s work in the media.

He said the request to expedite the investigation of the case "will not fall on deaf ears as the police is already establishing the motive of the case."

“I already have tasked all units to exhaust all resources to identify and locate the suspects. The task group is now obtaining copies of the CCTV footage that may help in the investigation,” Santos said.
