Robin Padilla balks at proposed mandatory drug tests for actors: 'It is tantamount to violating their human rights'

Actor-turned-Senator Robin Padilla does not agree with Surigao del Norte Representative Robert Ace Barbers' proposal calling for mandatory drug testing on actors as part of the government's anti-illegal drugs drive.

Robin has issued a statement a statement on the matter, saying, "I am one in seeking to protect our fellow Filipinos from the ill effects of illegal drugs. This includes my fellow workers in the showbiz industry. However, we cannot oblige anyone to undergo a drug test, as it is tantamount to violating their human rights."

He suggested for voluntary drug testing instead.

"It would also be best if the employers shouldered the expenses for such drug tests," he added.

Robin also urged that, if ever, government officials and employees should undergo drug testing as well, if only to set a good example.

The Surigao del Norte Representative's suggestion came after actor Dominic Rocco, son of veteran actor Bembol, was caught in a drug bust in Quezon City.
