Pulong: Names of TUPAD beneficiaries being used to defraud gov’t

Davao City Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte on Monday, Oct. 3, lamented that some individuals are posing as Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged and Displaced Workers (TUPAD) beneficiaries to receive a payout from the government.

"It has occurred to me that people are using the Department of Labor and Employment's (DOLE) fulfillment program to scam our government," said Rep. Duterte in the vernacular.

Rep. Duterte said that he felt sad because, despite the efforts shown by friends from DOLE, barangays officials, and the First Congressional District Office’s staff, some TUPAD beneficiaries were unable to benefit from the program.

The lawmaker said that his office and the DOLE-11 had taken steps to investigate the matter and arrest those involved in the crime, adding that they must face the consequences of their actions.

Rep. Duterte emphasized that stealing from the government's treasury and one's individuality is punishable by law, especially since it was committed during a time of crisis in the country.

"For those involved in this scheme, I hope you are happy with what you did. I hope your stomachs are full with what you ate while those you steal from are suffering from hunger. Watch out for the divine retribution," Rep. Duterte said.
