A few days ago, the website of the Department of Education (DepEd) was hacked by someone or a group with the monikers of “0x1998” and “B44T.”
The defacement was verified and mirrored to Zone-H, an archive of defaced websites.
As of this time it is unclear how the hackers were able to breach the website.
Web defacement is typically done by hackers who break into a web server and replace the hosted website with one of their own. Using techniques such as Remote Code Execution, SQL Injection, Cross Site Scripting etc.
Common targets of defacement are religious websites, government websites, bank websites and corporate websites.
