Motorcycle rider dies, companion injured in Negros road mishap


BACOLOD CITY - A young man was killed while his companion was wounded after they figured in a road accident in Barangay Old Sagay, Sagay City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, Sept. 28.

The fatality was identified as Kayne Ray Taleda, 22, of Barangay Paraiso, while the wounded was identified as Junies Caspe, 22, of Barangay Bulanon.

PEMS Elmer Baloco of Sagay City Police Station, said that Taleda, who was driving a motorcycle, was tailing another motorcycle driven by John Danly Baraga, 21, of Barangay Taba-ao.

Baraga was following a tractor truck driven by Fernando Laspino, 47, of Cebu, when he allegedly overtook the said truck.

Taleda also tried to overtake, but Baraga suddenly stopped when he noticed a tricycle parked from a distance, Baloco said.

As a result, Taleda hit Baraga's motorcycle, and they fell.

Taleda was then run over by a truck, while Baraga was unharmed, Baloco said.

Taleda was declared dead on arrival at a hospital, while Caspe suffered minor injuries and was already discharged from the hospital.

Baloco said that Laspino was released from police custody, following an initial settlement with the victim's family.
