‘Luis’ exits PH area of responsibility


Tropical cyclone Luis (international name: Roke) has intensified into a severe tropical storm and is now outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday morning, Sept. 29.

The weather disturbance, according to the state weather bureau, intensified into a severe tropical storm at 8 a.m. and it exited the country’s boundary at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

Last spotted 1,130 kilometers (km) east northeast of extreme northern Luzon, Luis was packing maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour (kph) with gustiness of up to 125 kph.

“Luis remains unlikely to directly affect the weather condition in the country within the forecast period,” said PAGASA in its bulletin issued as of 11 a.m.
