Best style moments at Milan Fashion Week spring-summer 2023

After the fashion festivities in the Big Apple, the world turned its gaze to Italy as its luxury labels and fashion house present their vision for spring-summer 2023 through Milan Fashion Week (MFW). Believe us when we say that this season’s MFW not only showcased new styles of dressing, but also spectacular shows producing notable fashion moments. From kiddie pool couture to paying homage to a fashion legend, here are some of our favorite collections at MFW spring-summer 2023.

Pieces from Dolce and Gabbana, Moschino, Gucci, Versace, and Fendi

Inflatable fashions at Moschino

Moschino’s creative director Jeremy Scott has been known for his eccentric runway presentations, from the 2020 puppet show to the baby-themed collection 2021 This time, the designer presented his spring-summer 2023 collection with the use of inflatable floaties—a twist on the word “inflation” with “the cost of everything’s going up,” he tells Vogue.

Twinning a Gucci

Identical twins donning similar garbs were the stars of Alessandro Michele’s latest collection for Gucci. Dubbed “Gucci Twinsburg,” the spring-summer 2023 men's and women’s collection played with the idea of duality and reflection. “As if by magic, clothes duplicate. They seem to lose their status of singularity. The effect is alienating and ambiguous,” the creative director said. “Almost a rift in the idea of identity, and then, the revelation: the same clothes emanate different qualities on seemingly identical bodies. Fashion, after all, lives on serial multiplications that don’t hamper the most genuine expression of every possible individuality.”

Goddess gone grunge at Versace

Donatella Versace channeled pop-punk spirit for Versace’s spring-summer 2023 collection. Spellbinding pieces in moody prints, rocker leathers, and combinations of purples, black, and neon yellow were displayed on the runway serving major Y2K vibes. And before things get too emo, socialite Paris Hilton closed the show with the ultimate yet simple Barbiecore dress.

Rainy day chic moments at Jill Sander

Rain may have fallen on the outdoor runway show of Jil Sander but that didn’t stop designers Luke and Lucie Meier from presenting their spring-summer 2023 collection. Inspired by the West Coast, the line gave a new take on workwear through relaxed suits, crocheted pieces, and tank tops and cutout garbs giving a true LA vibe.

Kim K at Dolce and Gabbana

Dolce and Gabbana’s spring-summer 2023 collection got an added star power with Kim Kardashian curating looks for the show. The reality star selected archival pieces from 1987 to 2007 that were then reworked for the collection. The result is a collection presenting bejeweled corsets, lingerie pieces as outerwear, and femme fatale dresses.

Divine creations by Moncler

Moncler CEO Remo Ruffini made a grand performance at the Milan Cathedral to celebrate the brand’s 70th year anniversary. A flash mob choreographed by Franco-Algerian artist Sadeck Berrabah was presented during the show. The highlight was the unveiling of the new version of the quilted Maya Jacket.

‘Gestures of error’ at Prada

Raw beauty is what Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons’s collection for Prada is all about. Dubbed “Domestic Voyeurism,” the spring-summer 2023 line featured layering, knitwear, and dresses with their charm relying on being purposely unpolished. The creases, rips, and folds were meant to be”gestures of error” suggesting “pieces that have had a life.”

Honoring Karl Lagerfeld at Fendi

For Fendi Spring Summer 2023, Kim Jones developed the codes he established during his tenure at the brand while drawing upon Fendi’s history and evolving its distinct language for now. Through his fresh perspective, the past becomes the future: Karl Lagerfeld’s work, from 1996 to 2002, offered the starting point for a distinctly contemporary collection. “It’s about continuity,” said Jones. “I am interested in looking at things that Karl has done and seeing how we can develop them visually and technically.” A floral print drawn from the FENDI archives and a logo first introduced in 2000 anchor the collection in the past but are reimagined for today.
