The 941 beneficiaries were rice farmers who got severely affected by drought followed by flooding caused by typhoon Karding and hog raisers whose businesses suffered from the African Swine Fever outbreak this year, PCUP said.

The initiative was under the Department of Labor and Employment - Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers Program in cooperation with the ACT-CIS party list.

PCUP said that the cash distribution was in line with the commission's mandate of serving as the "bridge" of other agencies that aim on assisting Filipinos suffering from crisis.

Pigcawayan Mayor Juanito Agustin then expressed his gratitude for the commission and two other agencies involved, PCUP said.

As of the Department of Agriculture (DA)'s data on Tuesday, Sept. 27, the agricultural damage brought by typhoon Karding has reached P1.29 billion.

A total of 82,158 farmers were displaced by the typhoon, DA added.
