Over 2k families evacuated in Regions II, III, MIMAROPA, and V


A total of 2,238 families or 9,103 individuals from Regions II, III, MIMAROPA, and V were evacuated at 194 evacuation centers due to the super typhoon Karding's onslaught.

This was according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) 6 a.m. report on Monday, Sept. 26.

Meanwhile, 132 families or 594 persons from these regions sought temporary shelter with their relatives or friends, DSWD DROMIC added.

As per the report, there is a P103.02 million Quick Response Fund available and ready to be dispensed from the DSWD Central Office, P43.08 million from DSWD Field Offices in the said regions, and P40.33 million from other DSWD Field Offices which are on standby to assist the heavily devastated areas through inter-field office augmentation.

Assistance worth P21,404.20 was already provided to the affected families, P13,601.20 of this amount came from the DSWD while P7,800 was from the local government units, DSWD DROMIC said.

DSWD Secretary Erwin Tulfo earlier visited Jomalig Island in Quezon to assess the situation of the residents.

The DSWD Region IV-A also conducted a rapid assessment in their region and reported at least 7,600 families displaced by super typhoon Karding within its 48 municipalities.

The five municipalities in the Polillo Group of Islands are included in this number, DSWD Region IV-A said.

As per the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration's latest report, super typhoon Karding has slightly weakened and is slowly moving away from Luzon.

It was spotted 230 kilometers west of Dagupan City, Pangasinan.
