Bridge in Antique collapses due to overloaded truck


ILOILO CITY – A bridge connecting Hamtic and Sibalom in Antique collapsed after a truck loaded with sand and gravel crossed early Monday morning, Sept. 26.

One of the approaches of the Buhang-Egaña Bridge cracked and dislodged from the main bridge.

“Heard something at 3:10 a.m. and thought it was just another freak accident as we are used to,” said Toto Magbanua, who lives nearby.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (MDRRMO) of Hamtic and Sibalom have advised motorists to avoid using the route.

Nobody was hurt in the incident.

Meanwhile, rain from typhoon “Karding” cancelled classes on Monday in several areas in this city and Iloilo.

Mayor Jerry Treñas here cancelled classes from pre-school to senior high school.

Twenty-one mayors in Iloilo as well as the component city of Passi suspended classes.

Western Visayas was unscathed by Karding.

No major incident from the tropical cyclone has been recorded in the Western Visayas as of posting time.
