In just a matter of hours, tropical storm Karding intensified into a super typhoon, packing maximum sustained winds of 195 kph, and gustiness of up to 240 kph, as of 11 a.m. Sunday.
Karding was set to make landfall over Polillo Islands, or in the northern Quezon-southern Aurora area on Sunday afternoon or evening as more areas have been placed under Signal no. 5.
Meanwhile, many local governments in Metro Manila and nearby provinces have announced suspension of classes. A list of these areas is in the Metro Roundup.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. dodged the inclement weather, and arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Sunday morning after a six-day working visit in the United States.
